Photo Editing Software for MacWhen it comes to photo editing software for Mac - there is a sea of choices.
Some options are rather expensive. And others are free. Some programs are very powerful. While others do just one or two tasks and do them very well. Which is the best mac photo editing software is a matter of personal preference. As someone who does a lot of work with graphics on the web - I actually use several different apps and sometimes even more than one on the same photo. The Line Up

This full featured app has tools for a huge number of photo effects as well as other image editing tools. Find FX Photo Studio in the Mac App Store. FX Photo Studio Pro adds even more features for professional photographers. |

iPhoto At the very basic - and free - level is some Mac photo software that you already have. The one you know about comes bundled as part of the iLife 11 suite - iPhoto. |

Preview The one you may not know about is also part of the Mac OS software on every machine - Preview. That's right! Preview is not just for PDF's. It can actually be used to crop and adjust the size of JPG files too. Learn more about photo editing for Mac using Preview here. |

Picnik.com If you are looking for Mac photo editing software that packs a little more punch - but is still free - then you should check out Picnik.com. This is not really software in the true sense because all of the editing takes place online. You upload your photos. You edit them. And then you download the finished version. |

ImageWell This is wonderful and easy to use photo editing software for Mac that allows you to quickly edit photos. You can add borders, crop shapes and do a few more fancy things. Unfortunately some of the functions like batch editing, and watermarking that were offered in version 3 have been removed in version 4. But for under $5 (current price) you can't beat this little app. |

Acorn My new favorite Mac photo editing software is Acorn. It's been around for a while but I just discovered it. And apparently the latest update has made it even better. Personally, I think it is easier to use that Photoshop Elements for Mac. |

Pixelmator Pixelmator is another Photoshop alternative for Mac. This photo editing software for Mac is a little more complicated than Acorn but quite feature packed. |

Photoshop Elements for Mac And then there is the real deal - well, almost. Photoshop Elements for Mac is the lightweight cousin of the full blown Photoshop program. For the "average" person - this photo editing software for Mac has more than enough features. But it is not extremely user friendly - so expect to allow some time for learning. |

Aperture Similar to iPhoto but much more powerful. Aperture is for serious hobbyists and professionals. I actually like it better for it's photo organizing capabilities than for it's editing features. Since the opening of the Mac App Store - this program has been available for a steal. |

Voila Voila is a well known app for screen capture. But it also has the ability to do light photo editing as well. Cropping photos, adding text and arrows, and adding a few other bells and whistles is simple and easy. Unlike other screenshot programs, Voila also gives you the ability to make screencasts. |

Skitch Skitch is also an image capture program. But this one is just fun to use. You can create your own image on the fly or you can mock up pictures and screenshots. This program makes it easy to share your creations via Twitter and other options. The tools are big, bold and bright. |

ImageFramer This little app is just plain fun. This is not a Mac Photo Editor in the traditional sense. What you can do with ImageFramer is add beautiful frames and bevels to your photographs. |

Easy Frame This program is much more simple than ImageFramer but it is easy to use and produces some professional looking graphics. |

Image Tricks This program allows you to easlily add filters to your photos. You can take an existing photo and turn it into a creation. |
Photo editing software for Mac covers a broad spectrum of features. Each program offers something a little different.
For photo organizing iPhoto or Aperture will serve you best.
For touching up pictures and more - you will probably need something like Photoshop Elements for Mac, Acorn, Pixelmator, or Picnik.
For adding some fun and flair to your pics Skitch, ImageWell, Voila, ImageFramer, Easy Frame, and Image Tricks will do the job.
When it comes to a screenshot Mac has it's own built in tools but a dedicated program makes managing your screen shots easier and the tools make it easy to edit them. Voila and Skitch would be your best choices here.
There are many more programs that offer all kinds of different features. If you are a developer and you would like to see your app listed on this page - please fill out the form here.
