Mac Recipe Software

Using Mac recipe software is a great way to organize recipes.

Sure you can make do with other programs - like Mac database software or note-taking software - but an app specifically designed to handle recipes is the slickest option.

Organizing With A Mac

An Apple computer is such a great organizing tool - that pretty soon you will want to keep track of everything on your Mac.

If you like to spend time in the kitchen - chances are, you have quite a selection of cookbooks, clippings, web bookmarks and more, containing tons of recipes that you might someday want to try.

I know I do.

And, surprisingly, I don't use a dedicated Mac recipe software program.

Instead - I have pieced together a way to manage my recipes that works rather well for me.

I actually use a combination of iWork, Evernote, and PDF Pen to keep my kitchen bustling and my family happy (at least in the culinary sense).

What Are Your Expectations?

Before coming up with a process for yourself - make a list of features that are important to you. Doing this now will save you a lot of grief and time in the future.

This is mine - in order of importance:

  • Easy input - Some people that are more organized than me, might prefer to type in their recipes - so that printouts look nice and uniform. I on the other hand did NOT want to retype every recipe. Armed with my handy dandy scanner - my intention was to scan everything.
  • Eapple pieasy output - Once the recipes were in the computer, I wanted to make sure that I could print them out on 4x6 index cards. I keep a recipe box in the kitchen and I needed this format.
  • Syncing - I am also heavy user of the iPhone and iPad. I wanted my recipes on both of these devices. Very useful at the grocery store - where I often do my meal planning (can anyone say "last minute?")
  • Easy searching - for those days when I am clueless on what to make, browsing through my recipes by ingredient - or category - or keyword should be simple.
  • Easy sharing - If I love a particular recipe - I might be so inclined to send a copy to my mom, or my sisters, or my friend.

I couldn't find one package that met all of these needs so I came up with my own process of managing my recipes.

In the following tutorials I will show you how I stay organized in the kitchen.

However - if it is a package you are looking for - Macgourmet Deluxe seems to be a full featured package for cataloging recipes on a Mac.
